BN, I just don't get it. I've been reading your column now for about six months, and yesterday's SC post just wasn't that offensive. Maybe I've become immune to your style, but I thought it was a pretty fair portrayal of how things are (esp. in NYC- when I was living there I couldn't believe how seriously some people took themselves when they were wearing skinny jeans and a fucking FEDORA for chrisssakes). Anyway, sucks about the google ads- I really thought they would have been noncommittal on this- you generate traffic, you make them money, why should it matter to them? Google is about directing traffic, right? I don't see them trying to polish their corporate logo- go type 'dildo' into their search engine and see how many sponsored links come up. How can what you write (which tends to be a touch cynical, wry, and almost always insightful and entertaining) be worse than advertising for a fakedick (noinsecurities)?

I was directed here from gawker and read your entry on Black Women. Before you roll your eyes, assuming I'm another angry "sista" just hear me out.
I always search for the opposite extreme so I can get a good perspective of both sides. For instance, if I read a liberal blog, I read a conservative blog immediately afterwards. At any rate, I have come across extreme things from all sides but I have NEVER responded to any. Ever. This is the first time I have ever responded to a blog or news website or anything. And I'm not even angry. What moved me to respond is I don't think you have been exposed to a moderate point of view. I think you have only heard from your cheerleaders or your haters. So here goes...
I know this is hella long, but please read.
If you take a look at Black people there is a broad spectrum of individuals. There are the ignorant ones that you speak of and there are educated ones. But even among the educated, you have another spectrum. The ones that don't understand that you can be pro-Black without being anti-white. The ones who live beyond their means. The ones who did not grow up around Blacks and either have a condescending attitude towards them or desperately want to fit in with them.
Here is my impression of you. You grew up around middle to upper-middle class Whites and the majority of contact you have had with Blacks have been the "sistas" and therefore in comparison you prefer those who are more "like you". However, your decisions and attitudes in life towards race have been (although reasonable) based on misleading data, and what is worse is that you have not sought out how to reevaluate on objectionable data.
The first thing to understand is it’s not about race and it’s not about money and it’s not even about education. I believe you correctly started to point that out. There are ignorant people with degrees and ignorant people with money. Black female athletes have money, but I am assuming they are too “ghetto” for your tastes. There are Black women in college who are educated but still come across as “ghetto.” By the way, I am not a fan of the words ghetto and sista. I cringe, but you seem to understand them so I shall use them.
Your problem is you are selectively choosing data that skews your conclusions. Just like in educational assessments. For example, there is overwhelming statistics out there that have concluded that Blacks are underperforming on standardized tests and therefore need additional federal funding to help them. It’s a reasonable conclusion if you look around. But they selectively picked the wrong data. Don’t get me wrong…without a doubt; Blacks at “black” schools are underperforming on standardized tests. But the statistics of Blacks at “white” schools almost always pass the standardized tests. Conclusion: they were looking at the wrong Blacks. If you look at the statistics of Whites at “black” schools or even mixed-race schools, Whites are underperforming as well.
Now on to you. I have seen and know many examples of you. You have a gigantic chip on your shoulder (with reason). You are shunned by Blacks who think you are a sell-out who hates his own Black mother. But at the same time you “prove” your Blackness (to Whites…because you could care less about the opinion of Blacks who are just hating on you) by having twists or embracing hip-hop culture. On the other hand you continue to poke fun at the ignorant Blacks who are not on your level and just don’t get it. You feel entitled to say things about Blacks that you can get away with because you are Black but then again you’re not “that Black” and you’re so brooding and deep…hence the use of the name “blognigger”. Sweetheart, you are overcompensating. Dave Chappelle stopped his show because he was overcompensating to the point where it was getting irresponsible. He was hurting himself without realizing it. He thought he was being cutting-edge and then realized he went too far and overshot it. Am I making any sense?
I am trying to convey to you that I get your angle. I see where you’re coming from. But you have to come back to the middle. Like the term I used in the beginning: a moderate point of view. I mentioned that “what is worse is that you have not sought out how to reevaluate on objectionable data.” To do that, you may have to go out of your way. Were there Black girls at your predominantly White school? How did they act? Did you avoid them so you wouldn’t be seen as “he’s only hanging out with them because they’re Black?” I am assuming you have a corporate job with majority White coworkers. Are there some Black women there with your preferences? There are exceptions, but they are typically “like you.” Basically you have to seek out the correct data and then make a decision. Keep in mind that there are a plethora of White women with the same qualities you despise, but you didn’t seek out a clip to post and represent that. You selectively picked a horrible woman to represent Black women. If you select correct data and still have your point of view, then I totally respect you for that.
I’m not saying go get a Black woman, because you are already married. But I would sincerely like for you to have a more healthy view of Black women by seeking out the ones who are like you. Sorry to write a freakin’ dissertation. Good luck.
